AI this week: Waymo picked 2028 for its first Toronto riders
ChatGPT also learned to work across Chrome tabs, Meta created non-voting shares, and Canva launched its own image model.
In brief
Robotaxis head to Toronto, with riders due in 2028
Waymo plans its first Toronto riders in 2028. ChatGPT now works across Chrome tabs. Meta approved non-voting Class C shares.

This week, AI moved closer to the places people already spend time: city streets, browser tabs and design tools. Money followed too, with Meta reshaping its stock.
Waymo aims for Toronto riders in 2028
Waymo announced on its blog that its robotaxis should carry their first Toronto passengers in 2028. The start is modest: human drivers will map the streets in detail within days, and no driverless testing has begun. Element Fleet Management will run the fleet, and Waymo plans hundreds of local jobs, from maintenance to customer service.
ChatGPT can now see and use your Chrome tabs
After an October 15 update, the ChatGPT extension for Chrome can read the tabs you have open and use them to answer. Imagine three sofa pages side by side and one request to compare them. In Work mode it can also fill forms, send messages and group tabs, and the store lists about 7 million users.
Meta created shares with no vote attached
Meta's board approved Class C stock with no voting rights, handed out as one new share for each existing one. Meta says the shares can fund growth, staff pay and deals, while Mark Zuckerberg keeps his voting control. No sale of the shares has been announced.
Canva Craft sketches a plan before it draws
Canva released Canva Craft, its first image model built in-house, on October 22. It first decides where each element and line of text goes, then a second model paints the picture, up to 2K resolution. Canva says it debuted fourth on Design Arena, a ranking other outlets call preliminary. Finally, a menu where the prices are actually readable.
Next week, watch Toronto streets, where Waymo's human-driven mapping cars are due to appear within days.
