OpenAI agreed to buy Pierre Computer Company, maker of the code tools inside its Codex app
Pierre's open-source Trees and Diffs libraries already run in Codex; price and closing date were not disclosed.
In brief
OpenAI is buying the team behind Codex's diff tools
OpenAI will acquire Pierre Computer Company. Its Trees and Diffs libraries already run in Codex. Open-source projects stay open. No price or closing date was given.

OpenAI said on November 4, 2026 that it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc. Pierre builds Code Storage and the open-source Trees and Diffs libraries.
You may have used Pierre's work already. Those libraries sit inside the Codex app, where they handle file browsing and the review of code changes.
What OpenAI wants
OpenAI says it wants to build on the Git workflows developers already use and adapt them for coding agents. Git is the common system for tracking changes to code. A coding agent is an AI that writes and edits code for you.
The company also talks about linking the code a company ships with the decisions its people make.
Pando in the background
The announcement also mentions Pando, OpenAI's in-house source-control backend, which the company described earlier the same week. Other coverage, citing Axios, says Pando cut the time to push code changes by nearly 80%.
What happens to Pierre's products
Pierre's open-source projects will stay open-source, and OpenAI says it will keep contributing to them. Code Storage customers can keep using the service after the deal closes. Meanwhile, the team will work on bringing its features into Codex.
Axios framed the deal as OpenAI going after Microsoft's GitHub. According to one analysis, OpenAI's own post does not use that framing and speaks of adapting Git workflows for agents.
Limits
The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the two companies stay separate until it closes. Financial terms and a completion date were not disclosed.
