Facebook let users steer feed recommendations with their own words

Facebook has added AI tools that let people describe, in plain language, what they want more or less of in Feed and Reels.

The company said the new controls sit in the three-dot menu on posts, where users can manage topics and give more direct feedback.

Meta says recommendations update right away and can change within the same session.

Meta is calling one of the features Your algorithm. It gives people a place to add and adjust the subjects they want Facebook to surface.

The other change pushes feedback further than the old Interested and Not interested buttons. After those taps, Facebook may ask follow-up questions so people can explain their taste in their own words.

Meta says recommendations update right away and can change within the same session. That means the feed should react while the app is still open, not days later.

Under the hood, the company is leaning on large language models, or LLMs. Those models are better at reading natural language, so Facebook can use typed feedback alongside the usual signals from likes, comments, and video watching.

The pitch is simple: less guessing, more direct steering. Imagine telling Facebook, “More woodworking, less celebrity clips,” and seeing the feed bend that way without hunting through menus.

Meta says this should make ranking more relevant and more responsive over time. The company did not say how many users have the tools yet, or whether the rollout is global.
