Google announced Gemini 4 Argon and new AI tools in September
The company introduced a new frontier model for complex reasoning and expanded AI capabilities across Windows and scientific research.

Google released a series of updates in September 2026, headlined by the new Gemini 4 Argon model. Designed for heavy reasoning tasks, this model features a 1-million-token context window to assist with cybersecurity defense, financial analysis, and legal drafting.
The company also rolled out Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber. These models offer faster performance and support automated code patching for security teams. For everyday users, the Gemini app is now available on Windows, allowing users to brainstorm or check files using an Alt + Space shortcut.
Gemini 4 Argon is engineered to bring advanced reasoning to the most difficult of problems.
Voice interaction received a boost through Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking. These tools aim to reduce lag during multi-step conversations. Additionally, new text-to-speech models, Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS and 3.8 Flash TTS, allow users to generate custom voice audio from text prompts.
On the hardware front, Google introduced the Googlebook laptop. This device integrates directly with Android phones and includes features like Magic Pointer, which lets users point at their screen to ask the AI questions.
Scientific breakthroughs were also a major theme. The company unveiled AlphaGenome Atlas to map human DNA and partnered with NASA to use the MAPL-EMIT model for tracking methane emissions from space. Researchers also mapped the 166,000 neurons of a male fruit fly brain.
Despite these updates, Google notes that Gemini 4 Argon is currently limited to trusted cyber defenders under the Fairwind Program. Many features, such as the group-coordinating agent CC, remain in experimental preview stages.
