OpenAI launched dots to act as persistent personal agents

These new agents run on GPT-6 Astra and connect to 4,000 apps to handle tasks around the clock.

OpenAI released dots, a new category of autonomous digital agents designed to function continuously. Built on GPT-6 Astra, these agents possess their own cloud-based computing resources to pursue user goals 24/7.

Unlike standard chatbots, dots learn from user feedback over time to align with individual preferences. Through a built-in ecosystem, they can connect to over 4,000 apps. This allows them to execute complex sequences of actions across different platforms.

The magic of dots is when they bring you work done the way you would do it, sometimes before you even think to ask.

Imagine you ask your dot to organize your project schedule. It would not only draft the timeline but also update your calendar and notify teammates via Slack or Teams without needing constant check-ins from you.

Users can interact with their agent through various interfaces. You might type out instructions in ChatGPT or simply start a voice call to discuss an idea and let the agent take the lead on execution.

The system aims to handle the heavy lifting of ambitious projects that might otherwise feel overwhelming. Does having a digital assistant that works while you sleep sound like a relief or a new kind of headache?

Despite these capabilities, dots are still in their early implementation. The current documentation does not specify how the system prevents errors during long-running autonomous tasks or how it handles data security across such a wide array of third-party integrations.
